We will be in attendance at the annual agricultural show for Heathfield and surrounding area this Saturday, from 8am until 5:15pm.
This Saturday the 28th sees the Heathfield show return for another day of tractors, trailers, food and friends (with the odd bit of livestock thrown in). Run by volunteers, Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) are joining them, in order to support the community and continue spreading the word about road safety in different areas.
SSRP will be promoting their ‘Safer For Business’ side of the organisation, in a bid to get more companies with fleet vehicles on board with training for staff. The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act (2007) creates a mandate for businesses to look after its employees, and this includes during any travel for work. The Company Operator Safer Transport Scheme (COSTS) is provided free to businesses, and includes two modules during a Lunch and Learn experience. To find out more about it, visit the stand at Heathfield on Saturday.
In addition to this, we will also be talking about how to be safe when on the road using bikes (pedal and motorised), and the benefits of taking one of our motorbike courses – Bikesafe and Biker Down. Bikesafe, run by partners Sussex Police, looks at bridging the gap between everyday riding and advanced training. Biker Down, run by partners in the Fire Services, looks at First Aid and collision management. Both are extremely popular, and both get booked up very quickly each year.
Other topics for Saturday include how to be seen when riding a horse on the road, and extra training you may be required to take if you drive something a little unusual (HGVs, tractors, branded vehicles and so on). But if you have any questions about anything to do with road safety, you only need to ask.
The Heathfield Agricultural show is run by volunteers and supports local businesses. For a fulfilling family day out this bank holiday, book your tickets and come and Hug A Hen, watch the JCB Dancing Digger Display (yes, really), and get involved with the community.

We hope to see you there!
