More often than not people are caught speeding because they are unaware of the legal limit. Unfortunately this is not a justifiable reason for not receiving a speeding fine. It is your responsibility as a motorist to know and understand the highway code and this includes knowing your speed limits.

These are the national speed limits that apply to all roads unless the road signs indicate otherwise.
