Different road conditions require different approaches - a statement which might seem obvious, but it is amazing how many people drive inappropriately in adverse weather conditions.
Consider, for example, a very wet day with torrential rain. Is it a good idea to drive at the national speed limit on a dual carriageway if visibility is reduced or there's water lying on the road? Most people would agree that it is sensible to reduce vehicle speeds in conjunction with conditions - but incredibly every year, people die on Sussex's roads because they don't pay heed to the conditions. Rain specifically accounts for a number of deaths each year in single vehicle collisions (where one vehicle has left the carriageway or collided with street furniture) due to aquaplaning or skidding/sliding.
The SSRP will be developing online guides to a range of different weather conditions and how these will affect cars on the roads - so please keep returning to this website for the latest updates.
