Babies and Toddlers

From the moment you know you are pregnant, you will need to start thinking about road safety for you and your new child. Studies show that parents of babies and children from birth to five years of age have the following road safety concerns: In-car safety, pushchair/buggy safety plus driveway and car park safety.

The SSRP is committed to working with expectant and new parents to help them keep themselves and their babies safe on the roads.  To this end, we have produced an advice booklet - Bump To Toddler - which you can download from the link below.  Covering road safety from pregnancy to the time your child learns to walk and beyond, the booklet is a useful resource which has been well received by parents throughout Sussex.

Young and Primary Age Children

The SSRP has a range of schools advisors who work with both primary and secondary schools throughout Sussex to show young children how to keep themselves safe when out and about.

Road safety education is provided in a structured way, through each stage of a child’s development. The Road Safety Teams from each local highway authority (West and East Sussex County Councils and Brighton & Hove City Council) offer a comprehensive range of services to schools, pre-school groups and colleges.

Advice to teachers, parents and organisations is freely available, as is direct training to pupils.  There are also a range of theatre in education initiatives for a range of age groups, and more projects are being developed every year to keep our young people safe.
