Safer For Young People

Any death or injury on the roads is always tragic - but no more so than when a child is involved.  When a young person dies in a preventable accident, it highlights the needless waste of life that any road collision can bring.

In 2008 throughout Sussex, 371 road traffic casualties were under 12 years old - and of these 57 were killed or seriously injured.

Of the killed or seriously injured, over half were pedestrians, one-sixth were on bicycles and one-fifth  were passengers in cars.

The SSRP is working with parents, schools and children to raise awareness of the dangers presented by the road, organising school visits, publicity campaigns and even competitions to get young people engaged and ready to keep themselves out of danger.
