SSRP 2010 Sussex Schools Competition Calendar proves more successful than ever

Amazing artwork created by pupils from across Sussex appears in the 2010 Road Safety Competition Calendar produced by the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP).

The Calendar has been so successful this year that an additional 1,500 copies have been ordered and distributed with more being requested! This adds to original 8,000 which can be seen across the county in schools, shops, businesses, police stations, fire stations, offices, libraries and work places. It showcases a mixture of road safety messages aimed at making the area’s roads safer featuring innovative pictures drawn by local children. The pictures perfectly reflect the dangers on Sussex Roads of as seen by our children’s eyes.

Winning pupils feature from all across Sussex, they are:

For their fine efforts, each winning artist has received a £10 book token along with copies of the calendar for their friends, family and school. You can see the calendar at the download section on this website - www.SussexSaferRoads.gov.uk and pictures of the winners are in the gallery section of the SSRP website.

Neil Hopkins, Communications Manager for the SSRP, said: "The standard of work from the schools was truly excellent once again. It showed us they were very aware of local road safety issues, the benefits of concentrating and sharing the roads safely.

He continues, " The children of Sussex clearly understand the dangers involved in the misuse of mobile phones while driving , they know drivers should not ever to drink and drive, the need for motorists to stick to the speed limit and to always wear seat belts. We hope that they will take these vital road safety messages home to their families and with them as they become drivers."

He adds, "The designs we have chosen for the calendar will provide a helpful reminder for the driving public of the concerns of the young people of the county, making them think twice before they put their foot down a little too much or forget to put their seatbelt on. The stand-out school this year was Wisborough Green Primary School, with four successful entries. It throws the gauntlet down to other schools across Sussex to try to emulate their success in next years SSRP Calendar. We get requests from partners, businesses and offices for the calendar every year and anticipate perhaps having to print 10,000 copies for 2011. "

Each of the specially commissioned calendars includes details on how all schools can enter in order to match the brilliant effort of this years winning pupils.

It's also viewable on the download section of this website, so that your child's school can enter or in indeed the SSRP will accept individual entries from children as well, right across the year up until the closing date of 30th September 2010.
