Speed limits will be cut to 20mph around Portslade Infants, St Nicholas Junior, Downs, Hillside Special School and Peter Gladwin Primary School and other areas around Portslade Old Village in the next stage of Brighton & Hove’s City Council’s 20mph pilot schemes.
The pilot scheme is a response to concerns raised by local people and a review of speed limits by Brighton & Hove City Council. It will take effect from March 1 and will cover 21 roads.
This scheme follows the success of the 20mph speed limit around Stanford Infant and Junior Schools and surrounding residential streets in Brighton last month.
Councillor Ian Davey, the city council's Cabinet Member for Transport and Public Realm, said: "We've listened to local people who are concerned about road safety in the Portslade OId Village area, and carried out a review of speed limits which has identified the roads around Portslade Old Village as suitable for a pilot 20 mph scheme.
We will be looking closely at how this and the Stanford Schools scheme works to shape future proposals - we hope to work with local people on a roll-out of 20mph limits in other communities across the city."
The roads included in the Portslade Old Village scheme are Burlington Gardens, Drove Road, Easthill Drive, Easthill Way, Fairfield Gardens, Foredown Drive, Hayes Close, High Street, Highlands Road, Locks Cresent, Locks Hill, Lucerne Close, Manor Road, Meadow Close, Mill Lane, Millcross Road, Park Close, Romany Close, South Street and Windlesham Close.
