Speed Awareness FAQs

What if I am late or unable to attend?

You must arrive on time or you will not be allowed to take part in the Course. If you cannot attend due to sickness, then you must notify the Course administrator at the earliest opportunity.  To book another Course you will have to pay a rebooking fee of £45.

Under certain circumstances (named below) you may either arranged another course date free of charge or receive a full refund:

  • Receipt of a medical certificate or letter (self-certification will not be accepted)
  • Notification of hospital appointment
  • Bereavement

Appropriate written proof of these circumstances will be required.

In the event of a no-show to a Course date, your file will be returned back to Sussex Police for their consideration as the matter may now have to be reverted to a Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty.

Weather conditions preventing attendance?

During times of bad weather, a decision will be made based on current information and weather warnings as to whether the courses should go ahead or be cancelled. To check the status of a Course please click on the ‘Current Course Status’ on our website.

What do I need to bring on the day?

It is essential that you bring photographic identification with you to the Course. You must produce suitable photographic identification (e.g. photo card driving licence, passport or bus pass with photograph).

If you do not have any of these please contact the Driver Training Team immediately on 0330 222 8999 to discuss what will be acceptable. A suitable alternative can be accepted but only with prior agreement with the team.

Failure to bring and produce an acceptable form of photographic identification at the start of the course will result in you being refused the opportunity to participate on the Course and is classed as a failure to attend.

Special Requirements needed to attend the Course?

Every effort will be made to accommodate any special requirements that you may have, provided you have notified the Driver Training Team on 0330 222 8999 or dtinfo@westsussex.gov.uk. If no indication of, or request for any special requirements has been made, then we cannot be held responsible should you be unable to complete the Course.
